14 quality gallopers have been nominated for the upcoming 2010 Flight Stakes. The Group 1, $400,000 event will take place this Saturday, October 2 at Randwick Racecourse.
Gai Waterhouse-trained More Strawberries is leading the nominations for the upcoming event as the three-year-old filly is in search of her third consecutive first place finish. Her most recent outing in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) resulted in a convincing first place finish, which was preceded by another first place finish in the Furious Stakes (1400m).
More Strawberries will be going up against Tea Rose rival Parables. The Peter Snowden-trained filly ran second to More Strawberries in the Tea Rose earlier this month. Parables is boasting the second highest rating, and will be one to consider once the odds are released later on this week.
Tim Martin’s Sasa has also emerged as an early frontrunner for the 2010 Flight Stakes title. The three-year-old bay filly has been showing promise throughout the spring racing season. Her most recent outing produced a fourth place finish to Retrieve in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes earlier on this month.
Other top contenders to watch out for includes Sasa stable mate Fibrillation as well as Slow the Flow and Chula Vista.
The 2010 Flight Stakes takes place this Saturday, October 2. It will be one of many noteworthy races taking place at Randwick, including the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m), The Metropolitan (2400m), and the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).
