October 2nd, 2014

Allocated the ideal barrier 1 and confirmed to be partnered by veteran jockey Glyn Schofield, Twirl has finished outside the places just once in five career starts but is yet to line up for an event at the highest level of Australian racing.

Conceding she is unsure how the three-year-old would handle a mile competitively, Waterhouse said he is confident Twirl is more than capable of success against her own gender.

“I think against her own age and sex (she’ll be suited),” Waterhouse told AAP.

“There’s a question mark over the distance but all I can say is I’m very happy with her.”

Offered a good chance of success via classy stable mates Muscovado and Echo Gal, Waterhouse said she is confident the continually building form and condition of the former will translate well to the 2014 Flight Stakes.

“She got some black type last Saturday and she’s a filly on the improve,” Waterhouse added of Muscovado.

Finishing a close second to boom colt Rubick in the TAB Iphone App Plate (1000m) on debut on January 25th, Twirl continued to impress in finishing third behind subsequent Golden Slipper champion Mossfun in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) before again finishing a close second to Believe Yourself in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) on March 15th; returning to the paddock after a luckless run for 6th in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m).

Finishing second to Lady Sharapova in a minor over 1250m at Canterbury first-up this time in on August 6th, the Lonhro filly won a strong Randwick barrier trial on September 19th and is yet to be confirmed for an alternate racing path in place of the Flight Stakes.
