Eleven three-year-old fillies have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Speak Fondly ($2.50) has returned to racing in particularly slick form this time and remains clear favourite in 2015 Flight Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Pearls ($6.50) and Sempre Libera ($8.50).
Will Speak fondly justify favouritism and break through for a maiden win at the highest level in the 2015 Flight Stakes, or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Sempre Libera ($8.50)
Sempre Libera is yet to contest a race over a mile but appears as though she will relish the step-up in distance and is sure to lay a great account for herself in the Flight Stakes from barrier 3, with leading hoop Blake Shinn aboard. Posting a maiden race win in the McGrath Estate Agents Plate (1200m) on April 1st, Sempre Libera made a competitive transition to black type racing in placing fourth in the talent-rich Group 3 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) before running fifth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) in a one-off Brisbane start. Having savaged the line for fourth in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 19th, the Medaglia D’oro filly will be tough to beat in the Flight Stakes.
Speak Fondly ($2.50)
Speak Fondly has finished outside the first three only once through seven career starts so far, is arguably the class filly of the 2015 Flight Stakes field and is a leading chance for a first three finish in the 2015 Flight Stakes. Stamping her claims as one to watch when taking out the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) in autumn, the Northern Meteor filly returned this time for consecutive wins in each of the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) before finishing second in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) last time out. Allocated barrier 5, Speak Fondly has been confirmed to be partnered by Tommy Berry.
Sofia Rosa ($19)
Kiwi raider Sofia Rosa is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from her debut Australian appearance for sixth in the Tea Ross Stakes but will need some luck in transit after drawing the outside barrier. Debuting to racing for third in the Listed Champagne Stakes (1200m) and Riccarton Park in New Zealand on May 2nd, the Makfi filly booked her passage over the Tasman with an impressive win amongst classy company in the Heart Of Hawke’s Bay Plate (1200m) on August 29th.
